TIER2 Pilot 6: Aimed to monitor the reusability of research artefacts

25 April 2024

Guided by the mission to foster community-driven stakeholder development, TIER2 has launched its Pilot activities campaign #TIER2Pilots. These eight activities, co-designed with the project’s stakeholders, aim to revolutionise reproducibility-related tools and practices across the research lifecycle.

For the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing insights into each Pilot's journey, continuing with Pilot 6 – Reproducibility Monitoring Dashboard.

This Pilot aims to develop a toolbox for assessing the degree of reusability of research artefacts produced by projects and publications, such as datasets and software. The toolbox is also designed to perform a semantic analysis of citations to ascertain the extent of similar results or conclusions reported by other studies. The Pilot is primarily focused on the Computer Science domain, with a special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence.

Pilot 6 will embed the developed toolbox into a dashboard that funding agencies and research organisations can use to track and monitor the reusability of research artefacts across their programs. This dashboard will facilitate more informed decision-making, efficient resource allocation, transparency and accountability in research funding. It will also help publishers identify undocumented research artefacts in manuscripts, and researchers to find well-documented and frequently cited research artefacts in their areas of interest.

Starting in January 2024, the Pilot will be in development until December 2025 targeting research performing organisations (RPOs), funders, publishers, and researchers. Leading the process will be Haris Papageorgiou and his team from Athena Research Center, with support from OpenAIRE. Get in touch with the Pilot leads and learn more about the rest of the Pilots here.
